PORT TERMINALS

Ports are fundamental links in the country's logistics chain. Main entrance and exit doors for goods, they are also great centers for generating trip, since the road modal occupies a prominent position among complementary means integrated with maritime transport. Therefore, the efficiency of the logistics chain is directly affected by the conditions of accessibility to the terminals, which in turn are associated with the capacity and quality of the road access infrastructure and in the port region, as well as with the characteristics of the surrounding occupation.
Many of the country's main ports are completely inserted in the urban environment, thus affecting and being affected by the daily lives of cities. In this context, efficient port planning cannot be restricted to infrastructure and operations within the terminals, but must also consider its integration with the municipality or region where it is located, with special attention to the immediate surroundings of access to the port structure.
The port operation, therefore, involves a series of processes that start outside the terminal, both in the places of origin of the products and in the immediate access for delivery for shipment. These extra-yard operations can, when not properly synchronized - not uncommon occurrences -, compromise internal productivity and ship loading.
In addition to several actions with projects developed to improve the efficiency of the yards (Santos, Tubarão in Vitória, Imbituba in Santa Catarina, SUAPE in Pernambuco etc.), we have been working, for several years, on improving and controlling vehicle access to ensure that the terminal does not suffer from continuity problems in its main operation.
Harmonizing the operation of terminals with urban movements in the region is one of the basic focuses of our projects, seeking to mitigate the ever-present, and natural, externalities in large enterprises.
The regularity of access traffic often presupposes the redesign of the terminal's insertion in the urban context.
